esLibre 2026 Edition

Page with information that will be regularly updated.

esLibre is a meeting of people interested in the dissemination of free culture and free technologies.

Free culture is a school of thought that promotes freedom in the distribution and modification of creative works based on the principle of free content to distribute or modify creative works and works, using the Internet as well as other means. It is a movement that stands in opposition to restrictive copyright measures, which several members of the movement argue also hinder creativity.

Free culture is made up of four streams of thought: the public domain, copyleft, Creative Commons licenses, and free software. Works in the public domain may also use free formats.

Today, the expression is synonymous with many other movements, including the hacker or copyleft movement, among many others.

This is a first approach to everything that will bring this edition, in which we have the collaboration of the Melide City Council, Librebit, Aitire and Museo da terra de Melide. We hope to add more collaborating companies and entities here.

As every year, little by little we will be incorporating details with the aim of making it easier to participate and attend this new edition.

About the congress

The same format as in previous years will be followed: talks, workshops, community tables and exhibition, rooms organized by communities… with the support of collaborators such as Interferencias, LibreLabGRX, OfiLibre of the URJC or Wikimedia Españae that will help in the organization and join forces in the realization of this edition in a hybrid face-to-face/virtual format.

The submission of proposals is officially open in a first phase until December 25 of this current year (2025) and a second phase until January 10, already from 2026, so you can find out how to propose activities for the congress on the proposal submission page.

How to get there

From outside Melide, whether arriving from Galicia or anywhere else in Spain, you can get to the train station (Adif/Renfe) in Santiago, called “Estación Daniel Castelao.” This station is in the “Estación Intermodal” (Intermodal Station) along with the bus station, where you can take the bus that will take you to your destination. To do this, when you get off the train, on the platform, go up the footbridge, turn left, and go to the bus station.

The bus from Santiago to Melide currently takes about an hour and leaves at 7:00, 9:00, 11:00, 12:45, 15:15, 16:00, 18:30, and 20:00, as we are waiting for the highway to open. Monbus search engine Search for “Santiago de Compostela (intermodal station)” or “Lavacolla de Santiago” as the origin and “Melide” as the destination. If necessary due to arrival times, we plan to provide a direct bus service, provided there are requests/proposals.

If you arrive by plane at Lavacolla-Rosalía de Castro Airport, please note that these same buses pass through the airport, with a stop right in front of the terminal, just 9 minutes later, and that, if there are requests, or if chartered by us, it will also pass through the airport.

Getting to the conference building

Once in the town of Melide, it is very easy to get to Praza das Universidades (next to Rosalía de Castro Park), where the two buildings that will host our conference are located. The Mingos de Pita Socio-Cultural Center building, where we will hold the opening and closing ceremonies, and the Multipurpose Building (which houses the Xosé Vazquez Pintor Library) are right next to each other, so there is no way to get lost.
